1. Driver Flees Scene After Hitting Teenager On Bike In Somerville: Report (patch.com) — Somerville residents are being urged to help identify a driver who allegedly hit a teenage boy on a mini bike at Mystic Avenue and then fled, leaving him with minor knee and pelvis injuries. The crash, captured on nearby store surveillance video, shows the teen tumbling across the road before limping away, and his mother is calling for the driver to be found and arrested.
2. MassDOT completes Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue Bridge superstructure replacements project nine months ahead of schedule (masstransitmag.com) — Travel through the Sullivan Square–Mystic Avenue corridor just got easier for Somerville residents, with MassDOT finishing the Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue bridge superstructure replacements nine months early. The project adds protected bike lanes, better sidewalks, expanded bus lanes, and transit signal priority to improve safety and speed for MBTA routes serving Somerville and nearby neighborhoods.
3. Somerville Parking Lot Scam Causes Resident To Go To Battle With Bank: Report (patch.com) — A Somerville resident who was scammed out of $5,000 in a Trader Joe’s parking lot ultimately got her money back after repeatedly challenging her bank and filing a police report. She says the charge appeared after a supposed charity worker took her card, and her dispute was denied multiple times before being resolved. The case is a reminder to Somerville shoppers to be cautious with in-person donations and large, unfamiliar charges.
4. Historic Somerville Victorian Reimagined for a Growing Family (nehomemag.com) — A historic 1898 Victorian home in Somerville has been overhauled to better fit a young family while preserving its original charm. Designers reworked the layout, moved a dramatic wood archway into the living room, and layered traditional furnishings, wallpapers, and period-appropriate colors to create a warm, modern, and cohesive space that still honors the house’s architecture.
5. Millions of Americans may now also be considered Canadian under a new law (ourquadcities.com) — A Somerville resident, Mary Mangan, is among many Americans now applying for recognition as Canadian citizens after a recent law expanded eligibility through ancestors. She filed her paperwork herself using online advice, while others nationwide hire lawyers as applications surge for political, personal, and economic reasons. Processing times are long, but costs can stay low for those who self-file.
