SOMERVILLE, MA — Three people were arrested during the city's annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration Tuesday night after police responded to several disturbances near Trum Field, Somerville police announced Wednesday.
Two juveniles and one adult are in custody. The charges include possession of a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, threats to commit a crime, and a person under 21 in possession of liquor. According to police, only one person is a Somerville resident.
The department said officers assigned throughout the event responded to multiple disruptive incidents and conflicts in the area. Officers were able to quickly assess each situation, ensure the safety of people nearby and minimize further disruptions.
Police also investigated a report of a possible firearm. Officers did not locate a firearm, and police said no shots were fired.
The city-hosted celebration featured live music, food vendors and fireworks. The annual event began at 6 p.m. with performances by Pluto's Return and Search Party, along with a DJ, before Mayor Jake Wilson's remarks, a performance of the national anthem by Britney Flores and the fireworks display around 9 p.m. The 2026 celebration also included a reading of the Declaration of Independence in recognition of the nation's 250th anniversary.
"We understand that the chaotic nature of disturbances like these can be scary and unsettling," the department said in a statement. "Please know that the SPD diligently plans and prepares for large events like the annual fireworks with the number one priority being the safety of residents and guests."
No other information was immediately available.
