SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville location of a national massage and skincare franchise has permanently closed.
MassageLuXe at 345 Revolution Drive in Assembly Row has closed its doors permanently, according to an announcement from the business. The announcement also said the company's Watertown location has permanently closed.
The owners did not provide a reason for the closures. According to the announcement, the decision was not voluntary, and they thanked customers for their support over the years while expressing disappointment that they were unable to keep the business open.
"This is not a decision we ever wanted to make, but one we were forced to make," Ownership said in a statement. "We know this is abrupt and the doors will not open again."
MassageLuXe is a national franchise offering massage therapy, facials, waxing, and other skincare services through independently owned and operated locations. The Somerville spa offered therapeutic massages, facial treatments, waxing services and membership packages that could be used at participating MassageLuXe locations throughout the country.
The company was founded in 2008 with the goal of making luxury spa services more accessible through membership-based pricing. Since then, the business has expanded to dozens of independently owned locations across the United States, offering services from licensed massage therapists and estheticians.
