1 Person Injured In Fire At Somerville Restaurant

This eatery may unfortunately be closed in the near future as it recovers from damage.

SOMERVILLE, MA — One person was injured and taken to a hospital after a fire broke out at a Somerville restaurant Thursday morning, according to the Somerville Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to Highland Cuisine at 2 Highland Ave. at approximately 8:05 a.m. The fire originated in the kitchen before spreading above the ceiling. Upon arrival, crews were able to quickly gain access to and extinguish the flames spreading above the ceiling.

The restaurant sustained significant fire, water, and smoke damage as a result of the blaze. One employee was treated at the scene for an injury before being transported to a local hospital by Cataldo Ambulance. Additional information about the employee's condition has not yet been released.

Highland Cuisine is a longtime Somerville restaurant that has served the community for more than 30 years. The restaurant specializes in Caribbean cuisine prepared with a traditional Creole style of cooking.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
