• New program can improve dementia care and support caregivers (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services is helping bring a new, free dementia-care program to eligible Somerville residents with Medicare Parts A and B, pairing families with a personal care navigator and respite support. The GUIDE program coordinates services like meals, transportation, and caregiver education across Massachusetts, aiming to reduce hospitalizations and ease the strain on local caregivers.
• Somerville's Dormition Community Donates 150 Backpacks to Children in Foster Care (thenationalherald.com) — A Somerville Greek Orthodox parish has donated 150 backpack-and-supply sets to children in foster care while welcoming a new presiding priest, Fr. Ioannis Michaelidis. The historic Dormition community, rooted in Union Square since 1916, also honors local Medal of Honor recipient George Dilboy with a scholarship for Somerville High seniors and annual awards for Greek American philanthropy.
