Somerville Moves Forward With Plans For New School (patch.com) — Somerville officials have chosen a preferred plan for a new 925-student school at 115 Sycamore Street, replacing the former Winter Hill building and eventually absorbing Brown School students. The city has submitted the design to the state for funding, with features like rooftop play space and community-accessible facilities that could shape neighborhood life and school assignments for years.
   

2. 6 food festivals to check out around Boston this fall (wbur.org) — Somerville residents can look forward to the What the Fluff? Festival returning to Union Square on Sept. 19, celebrating the city's signature marshmallow spread with dozens of creative food vendors. The roundup also spotlights several other fall food festivals in Boston and Cambridge, from pizza and local seafood to Thai street food and Oktoberfest-style celebrations, all within easy reach of Somerville.
   

3. Join the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville residents are being invited to apply for open seats on the city's Zoning Board of Appeals, the body that decides on special permits, variances, and major development approvals. The board meets twice a month, with an estimated 10–15 hours of work, and applications, including a resume and letter of interest, are due by Friday, October 30.
   

4. Somerville City Councilor Will Wbah announces his resignation (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville At-Large City Councilor Will Wbah has announced he'll resign effective December 31, 2026, after winning the Democratic primary for state representative. Under the city charter, Marianne Walles, the fifth-highest at-large vote-getter, will automatically fill his council seat, ensuring continuity in representation for Somerville residents.
   

5. Oteil Burbridge and LaMP Announce Make-A-Wish Benefit Tour (gratefulweb.com) — A Make-A-Wish benefit tour featuring bassist Oteil Burbridge and trio LaMP is coming to Somerville Theatre on October 9, with tickets already on sale. The four-city run will raise funds for Make-A-Wish chapters serving Massachusetts and neighboring states, turning an all-star improvisational show into a chance for Somerville music fans to support children with critical illnesses.
