Starting this fall, residents will see fresh pavement markings, flex posts, and clearer signs aimed at slowing speeds, improving visibility at crossings, and keeping unauthorized motor vehicles off the path, with additional improvements possible through 2028 based on ongoing monitoring.
• Review affirms positive direction for Somerville Public Schools (thesomervilletimes.com) — Somerville families can take heart that Somerville Public Schools just earned a strong rating from the state education department, with reviewers praising classroom climate, equity work, and support for students and educators. The report also flags areas to improve, like more consistent academic supports, clearer report cards, and stronger long‑term budgeting, which district leaders say they're already tackling this school year.
• Market Basket checkout systems experience outage (wcvb.com) — Shoppers in Somerville briefly found Market Basket registers down on Wednesday afternoon, with checkouts offline for about 5–10 minutes before service was restored. The outage, which also hit other stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, led some customers to abandon their carts, but the company says the technical glitch has been fully resolved.
