📰 News we're reading

• Somerville Announces Date For Staple Halloween Event (patch.com) — Families in Somerville can mark their calendars for the Truck O' Treat celebration at City Hall on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The long-running city-sponsored Halloween tradition will offer trick-or-treating, lawn games, refreshments, and other activities on the Central Hill campus, with a rain date set for Nov. 5.

• MWRA staff shocked residents with a proposal to take away Magazine Beach sports fields over a stormwater tank - Cambridge (csindie.com) — Somerville is part of a long-running regional effort with Cambridge and the MWRA to cut sewer overflows, including a planned stormwater tank beneath Somerville's ArtFarm park. In Cambridge, residents and officials are now pushing back hard against an MWRA proposal that would fence off Magazine Beach sports fields for a similar tank, citing park loss, long construction, and rising water and sewer rates, while still acknowledging the need to address climate-driven flooding.
