25 Years of Performathon

Community Music Center of Boston Holds Annual Performathon to Raise Funds for Student Financial Aid Program

Saturday, November 15th marked the 25th annual Performathon at Community Music Center of Boston. Since 1990, the Performathon has been Community Music Center of Boston’s signature, all-school grassroots event to raise funds for their student financial aid program. The event advocates a unique model of fundraising: students helping other students.

Performathon featured more than 250 student performers in an all-day marathon of mini-recitals on all instruments and all styles of music. Each mini-recital began on the hour, starting at 9:00am and ending at 5:00pm. Students of all ages performed throughout the day, either individually or in an ensemble, raising donations for the Music Center’s financial aid fund. This fund is an important cornerstone of the organization, awarding over $200,000 in aid annually. Boston Private Bank & Trust Company was the lead sponsor for the event for the second year.

Music Center students, and siblings, Edwin and Mandy Sun commented on why they love participating in Performathon. “It’s really fun to see students performing on different instruments.” Edwin comments. “I love hearing different music like jazz and rock.” Mandy continued. The sibling pair have been at the Music Center for over five years, both studying the piano.
