Five things you need to know today, June 5.

1) Shopping and dining in the South End: Washington Gateway Main Street has released the findings of its Customer Intercept Survey. Over 75 percent of respondents said they patronize shops along the South End portion of Washington Street at least once a week. There were some areas for improvement, however: “The survey also revealed opportunities for improvement in the district. While about 70% of respondents dine out at a sit-down restaurant at least once per week, almost 60% of respondents do less than one quarter of this dining in the district. Many people surveyed also suggested a need for more limited-service/ take-out and affordable dining.”
