• SECA green-lights application for 583 Tremont Street (thebostonsun.com) — Decisions by the South End Landmark District Commission will shape several neighborhood properties, including storefront changes at 583 Tremont Street and a new fence at 56 Rutland Square. Commissioners also ordered removal of an unapproved railing on West Newton Street and reviewed window, door, and roof-deck changes on other South End addresses that could affect your block's look and feel.
• Councilor Flynn to hold hearing on Blackstone Pool Sept. 24 (thebostonsun.com) — South End families who relied on the Blackstone Pool are being urged to weigh in as city councilors hold a Sept. 24 hearing on its long-term closure and needed repairs. With the pool still shut despite most city pools reopening, officials will discuss an engineering study, capital funding, and how to restore this key cooling, safety, and youth resource for local residents.
• Megan Gates named as new Pine Street Inn Board Chair (thebostonsun.com) — A longtime South End resident, attorney Megan Gates, has been named chair of Pine Street Inn's board, giving the neighborhood a prominent voice at New England's largest homelessness-services nonprofit. Gates, a donor and volunteer for years, will help guide expanded supportive housing and services across Boston, influencing how thousands experiencing homelessness move toward stable homes and jobs.
