Boston Partners' Power Lunch Is Improving Literacy: The Story of Javier, John & Scott

Two Westfield Capital Management employees take a Power Lunch break to mentor and read with a Blackstone Elementary School student.

During the 2015-2016 school year, Westfield Captial Management employees John and Scott were matched with Javier, a first-grade student participating in Boston Partners’ Power Lunch program. Once per week, John and Scott would visit the Blackstone Elementary School to read with Javier during their lunch break.

While John and Scott thought they were volunteering to help Javier with his reading skills, they soon discovered that Javier would be the one teaching them: about superheroes, about Frozen, and about the impact that the Power Lunch program would have on them.
