Brian Shortsleeve Becomes New Chief Administrator of MBTA

Shortsleeve previously served as a political director under former Mass. Governor Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney’s former political director, Brian Shortsleeve, was chosen on Thursday to fill the new chief administrator position of the MBTA.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced the news, describing Shortsleeve as the ideal man for the job.

“Brian is a proven leader with a successful track record fixing and running complex organizations large and small and his expertise is exactly what is needed to get the job done,” said Baker.

Shortsleeve has almost 20 years of experience working within the public and private sector. He’s also a former Marine Corps veteran.

Shortsleeve previously served as Romney’s political director during the former governor’s gubernatorial campaign in 2002.

As part of his administrative duties, Shortsleeve will work alongside the T’s newly-created financial board. They’ll team up in an effort to improve the T’s financial health, according to MBTA officials.

Interim General Manager Frank DePaola and CEO Jeff Gonneville will watch over the operational aspect of the T.
