Cantata Singers presents "Bach and Ruehr"

CANTATA SINGERS presents: BACH AND RUEHR

Sat, Nov 8, 2014 / 8pm
NEC’s Jordan Hall

pre-concert lecture with composer Elena Ruehr at 7pm

Cantata Singers’ 51st season commences
with a program featuring the world premiere of Elena Ruehr’s Eve paired with two cantatas by J.S.
Bach—his dazzlingly contrapuntal cantata BWV 77, “Du
sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben” (You shall love God, your Lord) and festive
wedding cantata BWV 195a, “Dem Gerechten muß das Licht” (The light shall
ever rise again for the righteous).
Cantata Singers has commissioned
Boston-based composer and 2014 Guggenheim fellow Elena Ruehr to write Eve, a new work for choir and orchestra
that uses text from Genesis 3, the Fall of Man.
Eve is Cantata Singers’ 14th
commission and the first from a female composer.

Following the performance, all are welcome at a
free post-concert reception in Williams Hall.
