Cantata Singers presents Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil

CANTATA SINGERS presents: RACHMANINOFF’S ALL-NIGHT
VIGIL

Sat, Jan
24, 2015 / 8pm

St.
Paul’s Church, Cambridge

pre-concert lecture / 7pm

Hear Sergei Rachmaninoff’s stunning a cappella masterpiece
in the original Russian. Often called simply the Vespers, Rachmaninoff considered the piece one of his finest
compositions.  Ethereal, poignant, and
beloved around the world, the All-Night
Vigil (
Всенощное
бдѣніе),
op. 37 was composed during the “golden age” of Russian choral music, when
composers like Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Rimski-Korsakov were all writing
music using texts from the Russian Orthodox liturgy. The All-Night Vigil is considered the crowning
musical achievement of this era.

Following each performance, all are welcome at a
free post-concert reception.
