South End Youth Recycling Event This Saturday

My name is Michael Green and I am Northeastern student and founder of South End Green. We are hosting our first workshop next Saturday at the South End Public Library where we will be teaching kids and families the importance of recycling. Before I tell you more about the event let me tell you a little bit more about my business.

At South End Green we offer at home sustainability consulting and green landscaping services to Boston's South End community. We are working with our neighbors on everything from gardening to how to properly recycle and energy efficiency. Our goal is to reinvest back into the community by offering workshops to the public about sustainable practices, organizing around environmental justice, and the importance of youth leadership.

For our first workshop we are focussing on increasing recycling in the South End! The event will be held at the South End Public Library on May 5th at 12:00. The target audience for the workshop is going to be area youth (<14). We will be promoting the workshop in area community centers, churches, schools and various other public spaces and are expecting a large turn-out. Currently we are working to get promotional material created and get resources for the workshop itself. The event will be attended by local legislators, local media and hopefully many eager young minds!

While living in the South End I noticed that it may be one
neighborhood however there are two very distinct communities. The difference in socioeconomic status and lack of collaboration has left the the South End divided.  By offering different workshops in public
forums, we hope to foster more communication between the neighborhood. We feel environmental issues are perfect to bring communities together
because it effects all of us! We believe that through the power of a unified, organized, and engaged community anything is possible!
