Fare Evasion Reveals Warrant, Drug Possession: Transit Police

A Dorchester man was issued a citation for "piggybacking" a fare, but officers found he was wanted for animal cruelty.

A Dorchester man arrested for fare evasion was also wanted for animal cruelty and in illegal possession of prescription narcotics, police said.

Derek Briggs, 41, was caught Thursday evening allegedly "piggybacking" behind a paying customer at Central Square Station. Transit officers issued him a citation for fare evasion and discovered he already had a warrant out for his arrest out of Dorchester District Court for two counts of cruelty to animals.

During the booking process, Briggs was found to have prescription narcotics without a prescription for them, police said. He will be additionally charged.
