Local Woman to Bike 62 Miles in Support of Alzheimer's Research

A Jamaica Plain woman is set to bike 62 miles in honor of her late mother who recently passed away from Alzheimer’s. She’ll be taking part in the 2015 Ride to End Alzheimer’snext Saturday in support of the millions across the United States suffering from the disease.

Nancy Stockford’s mother, Joan, passed away in March after a 14-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Stockford’s husband Mark Huston will join her in remembering Joan on July 18. The ride will run from Fort Devens to Southern New Hampshire.

“We want to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s and also support those people and families who are affected by Alzheimer’s,” said Stockford.

More than 5 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer’s, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. The fatal disease of the brain has no cure yet.

The Ride to End Alzheimer’s has raised more than $3,000,000 for disease research.
