Neighborhood Meeting Regarding Possible 7-Eleven Liquor License
The South End could have a new purveyor of alcoholic beverages soon.

South Enders living near the intersection of Berkeley and Appleton Streets may soon have a new option for their libationary needs, but not everyone in the neighborhood is happy about it.
The 7-Eleven at 55 Berkeley St. has applied to the City of Boston for a license to sell alcoholic beverages on the premises, and some local residents are concerned about the potential issues such an occurrence could provoke.
The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services will join 7-11 owners Olti and Antoneta Kadilli for a meeting concerning the plans to add booze to local store shelves.

The gathering will take place at 40 Berkeley St. at 6:30 p.m., and residents are invited to come out and meet the Kadilli’s and discuss the proposal to enhance the neighborhood market with alcoholic beverages.
According to Olti Kadilli, the desire to add booze to his store is driven by demand.

“A lot of customers ask for (alcohol),” he told Patch, regarding the reason he wanted to apply for the license. “A lot of people staying at local hotels come here looking for it. It’s just more convenient for them.”
Neighbors, however, may have some concerns over what element might be attracted to the area, aside from the casual imbibers, should the license be granted.
