New Project Will Enhance Access to Boston's Historical Sites

Mayor Marty Walsh announced “Connect Historic Boston,” which is project that will enhance walking, biking and public transit to historic sites and other destinations in downtown Boston.

The project will reconstruct four areas of Boston to create safe, attractive and easy to navigate pedestrian and bicycle connections.

Improvements will be made to Blackstone Block, Constitution Road, Joy Street and Staniford Street areas of Boston.

“I am excited to break ground on ‘Connect Historic Boston,’ which will serve as a vital link to the historic sites in downtown and Charlestown,” said Mayor Walsh. “Boston is a city full of history, and this new project will allow both visitors and residents to experience how Boston paved the way for America.”

The total construction cost is approximately $23.7 million. It will be funded by the City of Boston, the Boston Redevelopment Authority and a U.S. Department of Transportation Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant.

The project is expected to be completed by December of 2017.
