Patch Picks: Best Places to Watch the Super Bowl

For most of us in New England, this Sunday is just another day. Let’s face it, Patriots fans are in mourning. Ask any bar around town what their plans are this Sunday and their response will be, “We aren’t doing anything special, but the game will be on.” If you are brave enough to head out for Super Bowl Sunday (or just from out of town), here are our favorite South End spots to catch the game. 

113 Dartmouth St. 

This South End bar is perfect for large groups of friends. With its large wrap around bar and ample seating near the TVs it's perfect for a group outing to watch this Sunday’s game, or any. Order a “create your own” burger and any number of drafts for a perfect game time meal. 

117 E. Berkley St.  

In terms of South End sports bar institutions, it doesn’t get more South End then J.J. Foleys. The pub has been family owned and operated for over a century, giving them plenty of experience in celebrating the Super Bowl. The bar won’t be running any specials, but is worth the trip for its history alone.

329 Columbus Ave.  

For a little more upscale Super Bowl action try Coda. Their comfort food is perfect for the Patriot fan trying to feed their sorrows. Try their mac n’ cheese to make you feel a little bit better about this season's early end.

1357 Washington St. 

While Union has a great bar, it may be perfect for those looking to sit down for a meal and enjoy the game tableside. Try out their lobster pasta or stick to classic bar food and grab a steak, burger and beer. 

Slades Bar and Grill
958 Tremont St.  

Known for having great soul food, this South End bar and grill is a perfect spot for a South End townie. Park yourself at the bar, talk about the game with the friends you already knew would be there, sit back and enjoy.

Jacob Wirth
37 Stuart St.  

The only bar in town hosting a deal! Jacob Wirth is serving up an all you can eat Super Bowl party for the hungry fans of Boston. Come on, get a little festive, and full.

Stay Home

For those not interested in leaving the comforts of home for the game on Sunday, is offering up some tips and tricks for having a special Savvy Super Bowl.

Celebrity chef Rebecca Newell of The Beehive recommends starting game day guests with Rosemary-Truffled-Parmesan-Popcorn.

 How to make:

 Add 2 cups of popcorn kernels to a heated deep pot with canola oil. Shake vigorously until all kernels are popped. Add freshly shaved parmesan, white truffle oil, dried rosemary and salt and pepper to taste.

Newell then serves up pork tenderloin rubbed with cumin, cinnamon, salt and pepper.

How to make:

Heating the oven to 425˚she adds fresh garlic cloves, poblano peppers, tomatillos and red onion and cooks for 15 minutes or until medium. Take out and let rest for 15 minutes. Sliced on the bias, she adds the pork to warm flour tortillas with freshly roasted veggies, avocado, cilantro and crème fraîche.

Newall says, ditch beer and serve wine to your discerning guests instead.
