Dorchester Man Indicted in Shooting of Boston Cop
Grant Headley faces 12 assault and weapons charges, including attempted murder.

BOSTON, MA - A Suffolk County grand jury Thursday indicted a Dorchester man on 12 charges stemming from the Jan. 5 shooting of a Boston Police officer.
Grant Headley is accused of shooting Officer Kurt Stokinger during a traffic stop on Mt. Bowdoin Terrace. The 27-year-old had been wanted by law enforcement for some time for allegedly selling crack cocaine in violation of his probation following a five-year prison sentence.
According to police, Headley exited his car and fired on Stokinger, hitting him in the leg. He ran off, pursued by a second officer, who tackled him and took him into custody with the assistance of responding police.
Stokinger, 37, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Headley was indicted Thursday on the following charges:
- Armed assault with intent to murder
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Assault and battery by discharging a firearm
- Unlawful possession of a firearm as a second or subsequent offense
- Unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm
- Unlawful possession of a large-capacity weapon
- Unlawful possession of ammunition feeding device
- Unlawful possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number
- Unlawful distribution of a Class B substance as a second or subsequent offense
- Unlawful possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute
- Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Being a Level II armed career criminal
He will next face a judge in Suffolk Superior Court.
