South End Store Attracts Event Attendees from Largest Building Industry Event in Northeast

On November 16th around 3:00, a large bus transporting architecture, construction, engineering and other professionals will enter Boston’s South End to drop off Architecture Boston Expo attendees at Restoration Resources. This year will mark the second year that Restoration Resources has been selected to participate in the Architecture Boston Expo (ABX) which will be taking place November 15th through November 17th at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Restoration Resources is located in Boston’s historical South End and is the city’s only 7,000 square foot salvage company specializing in architectural salvage, vintage furnishings, antique décor and unusual gifts. Produced by the Boston Society of Architects, the Architecture Boston Expo is the largest building event and trade show in the Northeast and primarily attracts designers and a wide variety of architecture, engineering and construction professionals.

This year, Restoration Resources will be the host site for an ABX exclusive tour titled “Architectural Salvage-Tour, Décor, Drinks, Demos and More”. The tour will take place on Wednesday, November 16th at 3:00 PM. Conference goers who attend the tour will receive 1.5 learning units towards continuing education in their field. Aside from education credits, tour attendees will discover the world of salvage and see first hand its many benefits and uses. Salvaged architectural elements are often used to restore a period property to its original antique beauty but are increasingly used to add an element of charm and character to contemporary spaces.

Over the past 25 years, Bill Raymer, owner of Restoration Resources and South End resident himself, has earned the reputation of being a “salvage aficionado”, “architectural antiques historian” and an “expert in salvage design”. Bill understands what goes into finding and salvaging architectural elements (as he does demolition and deconstruction jobs himself) and has both an appreciation and an eye for repurposing and reusing salvage in traditional and contemporary settings.

Joining Bill Raymer at this ABX event will be Brendan Haley, award-winning designer builder and owner of BHaley Designs. Brendan is known for commercial and residential projects throughout the Greater Boston Area. He has won awards for a number of restaurants designated as Boston “hot spots” like Brookline’s Fairstead Kitchen, Somerville’s La Brasa and Milton’s Steel & Rye. A number of Brendan’s restaurant projects have been featured in Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston”. Many of Brendan’s design schemes incorporate the use of salvaged materials.

This event will be a great chance for industry professionals to develop and/or enhance an appreciation for the artful craftsmanship of salvaged elements and to come to understanding of both why and how to incorporate salvage in their diverse projects. Those who are not part of the tour are welcome to stop by Restoration Resources from 5:00 –7:00 pm to enjoy a drink at the bar, in back showroom, Circa, which doubles as an event venue, while perusing the unique variety of antique architectural salvage and other unique treasures that the store has to offer.
