Unconference:RootsCamp MA 2015

Progressive organizers gather to share lessons learned, discuss best practices, and move our movement forward

The weekend of April 25-26, progressive organizers from across the region will gather in Boston to share lessons learned, discuss best practices, and move our movement forward. This “unconference” builds on the success of RootsCamp MA in 2013 and 2010, and annual RootsCamps in DC since 2006.

RootsCamp MA shakes up the traditional conference model. Workshop proposals are not submitted far in advance. Instead everyone present decides the agenda each morning of the unconference. This allows participants to have meaningful and in-the-moment conversations about their work.

This is a participant-driven event. Everyone is strongly encouraged to come prepared to present a session or facilitate a dialogue. You know what you know, and you know what you are curious about. Bring that and we’ll all benefit from the shared learning and relationship building. We don’t mean traditional panels with PowerPoints, participants share valuable organizing lessons, brainstorm, and teach skills. You don’t have to be an expert to suggest a session.

Who should attend? Unconferences take advantage of the fact that we all have ideas and talents to contribute, as well as things to learn. Everyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to be affiliated with an organization or active with a campaign.

Do we really mean you? Yes. We welcome all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, experiences with activism, and professions - people born in Boston and those that just moved here. We hope you see someone like yourself and meet someone you otherwise wouldn’t have.

Who are we? The RootsCamp MA Organizing Committee is a group of committed volunteers. This grassroots event has gained the support of many, including Gold Sponsors: NGP VAN, Socializing for Justice, and Third Sector New England.
