An officer was informed about a possible impaired driver that was “all over the road and kept bumping into things.”

The caller was following the vehicle on Manchester Street and alleged that it had veered multiple times in and out of lanes and was curb hopping. The caller stated that the gray Ford stopped in the middle of an intersection at a red light and stayed stationary after the light turned green. The tipster followed the vehicle to Storrs Street and alleged that the vehicle didn’t slow down for pedestrians. While trying to park, the Ford allegedly crashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe. The woman “stumbled out of her car and walked into the NH Liquor Store with difficulty maintaining balance.”

The officer met with the tipster and saw the vehicle, a gray Ford. The tipster then pointed out the woman who was driving as she exited the liquor store, according to the report.

The officer spoke to the woman, Fitzgerald, who was holding a bottle of vodka in a brown paper bag, and alleged that she gave off “a strong odor of alcohol” and had “slurred speech and red glassy eyes.” Fitzgerald reportedly told the officer she had just come from Pembroke where her boyfriend lived. After some discussion about what she reportedly had to drink that day, Fitzgerald agreed to a field sobriety test. She was later arrested.

“Fitzgerald had difficulty walking over to the cruiser and stumbled multiple times,” according to the officer. “While I was transporting Fitzgerald to headquarters, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle that had not been in there prior to placing Fitzgerald in the backseat.”

While being led into headquarters and to booking, the officer alleged that she “had difficulty walking and stumbled a few times.”
