The Women's Lunch Place Hosts 4th Annual "eat LUNCH give" Luncheon

Barbara McCann honored with the Women Who Give Award

BOSTON (April 16, 2015) – Today, The Women’s Lunch Place (WLP) will host “eat LUNCH give,” a luncheon to benefit the organization’s ongoing day shelter services supporting women without homes or in financial need, at the Mandarin Oriental.

Hosted by Mary Richardson, former host of WCVB Chronicle currently the Community Liaison for Steward Health Care System. Speakers include Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito who has been a frequent visitor to the Women’s Lunch Place both as a candidate and since taking office. A guest of the Women’s Lunch Place will participate in the program and tell her story of how she has received help from this vital organization.

Barbara McCann, former WLP Board Chair who led the 3 million dollar capital campaign to renovate the shelter in 2013, will receive the 2015 Women Who Give Award, an annual award from the Women’s Lunch Place. Barbara has been a longtime volunteer and supporter for more than 20 years. She joins Vivien Li, Angela Menino and Micho Spring, of Weber Shandwick, as a leader in our community for the support and service of women.

One of two fundraisers this year, the “eat LUNCH give” event will provide the Women’s Lunch Place with increased resources to expand their food, advocacy, and guest services to local women in need. Now in its 32nd year, the Women’s Lunch Place currently serves over 1,300 women annually; they are continuing to evolve their services to accommodate a wide range of needs.

“The Women’s Lunch Place provides a refuge where our guests receive not only food and shelter, but a safe place to get medical or advocacy assistance, to cultivate career skills, participate in the creative expressions program or simply enjoy the company of friends. The Women’s Lunch Place has been part of the fabric of Boston and the Back Bay for over 30 years,” said Hannah Grove, President of the Board of Directors. “The funds raised from this event will ensure that the Women’s Lunch Place will continue to provide for women in need in Boston.”

The event includes a raffle featuring prizes including an Apple Watch, Blue Dragon Lunch for Four, Overnight at the Taj, Mandarin Oriental Spa Package, Red Sox tickets, Newbury Street Gift Certificates and much more.

The Women’s Lunch Place

Located in Boston’s Back Bay at 67 Newbury Street, The Women’s Lunch Place has been serving women experiencing homelessness and poverty for more than 30 years and is one of the few places where women in need can find safety, comfort and sustenance during the day. Located in Boston’s Back Bay and drawing volunteers from across Greater Boston and well beyond, the Women’s Lunch Place is a caring community that provides a nutritious breakfast and lunch, as well as social, educational, wellness and advocacy services.
