1. Springfield man arrested after allegedly stealing moped at gunpoint (wwlp.com) — An 18-year-old Springfield man was arrested after police say a moped was stolen at gunpoint and later found on Clyde Street, where officers also seized a loaded, large-capacity firearm. The incident began with an armed carjacking report on East Hooker Street and ended when the suspect allegedly tried to flee but was detained. The recovered moped has since been returned to its owner.
2. Springfield Police arrest two more alleged illegal off-road vehicle riders (westernmassnews.com) — Springfield police seized more illegal dirt bikes and ATVs this weekend, bringing the city's total confiscations to 139 as they crack down on dangerous off-road riding in neighborhoods. Officers arrested riders after chases through streets like Upton, Farnsworth, and Wilbraham Road, with charges ranging from receiving a stolen vehicle to negligent operation. Police say these targeted details will continue on Springfield streets.
3. Car plows into pizza restaurant, owner picks up pieces (westernmassnews.com) — A longtime Springfield pizzeria is temporarily shuttered after a car crashed through the restaurant early Friday, leaving extensive damage but no reported fatalities. The owner is focused on reopening, planning curbside service to keep employees working while Springfield police investigate a possible medical cause behind the driver's hospitalization.
4. Anti-war rally amidst Big E traffic (fightbacknews.org) — Anti-war activists gathered in West Springfield on Saturday near Big E traffic, rallying against U.S. wars and Trump's stance on Iran while drawing honks of support from passing drivers. Organizers note that, despite bad weather canceling similar actions elsewhere, the Springfield-area protest went ahead, featuring signs and chants opposing military action and supporting Palestine and Cuba.
