BOSTON—State Representative Michael S. Day and State Senator Jason Lewis are pleased to announce the passage of the state’s budget for Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27).
Funded at $63.4 billion, the budget raises no taxes and adds $51 million to the state’s “Rainy Day” Stabilization Fund. The FY27 budget builds on the Commonwealth’s fiscal responsibility practices while delivering significant levels of investment in public education, local aid, housing production, healthcare, and protections for vulnerable residents against the impact of ongoing and increased federal cuts. Working together, Representative Day and Senator Lewis also secured $290,000 in direct appropriations to Stoneham for local priorities.
Representative Day filed earmarks in the House’s version of the budget, securing $150,000 for the Stoneham Police Department to purchase equipment and upgrade its facilities, along with $50,000 for the Stoneham Fire Department to fund maintenance and equipment purchases. Senator Lewis also filed earmarks in the Senate’s version of the budget, securing $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro North to establish an Innovation Center STEM Lab and $40,000 for Stoneham school playground improvements. Working together throughout the budget process, Representative Day and Senator Lewis successfully secured all four earmarks in the final FY27 state budget recently signed by Governor Maura Healey.
The legislature also allocated $8.3 million to support Stoneham Public Schools through Chapter 70 funding and $4.8 million of Unrestricted General Government Aid (UGGA) for Stoneham to use as they see fit in their general budget to defray municipal costs.
“I’m proud that this budget delivers critical funding to our public schools and communities, reconvenes the Foundation Budget Review Commission to investigate new ways to ensure adequate and equitable funding for all school districts, and makes our state more affordable for working families with significant investments in housing, healthcare, and childcare,” said Senator Jason Lewis. “I’m especially pleased that Rep. Day and I were able to secure funding for the Boys and Girls Club, public safety, and park improvements in Stoneham.”
“In the face of sweeping budget cuts at the federal level, this budget builds on our Commonwealth’s commitment to investing in programs that continue to make our state the healthiest, most educated and safest place to call home,” said Representative Michael S. Day. “I appreciate the support of my colleagues in the House and Senate who recognized the importance of increasing state aid to Stoneham and am proud to bring this level of funding home.”
