State Police Cruiser Struck On I-93 In Stoneham

The officer suffered minor injuries.

STONEHAM, MA — A Massachusetts State Police trooper suffered minor injuries after his cruiser was struck on Interstate 93 early Monday morning, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

The crash occurred on I-93 North at approximately 2:18 a.m., where the trooper was parked on the shoulder adjacent to the breakdown lane. State Police told Patch the trooper, who is assigned to the Medford Barracks, suffered only minor injuries and is expected to recover.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the cruiser was issued two civil violations for impeded operation and a marked lanes violation. State Police told Patch the impeded operation citation was for distracted driving. The other driver's vehicle suffered significant front-end damage.

Authorities have not released additional information about the driver or what led up to the crash.
