2-Year Police Search for Brockton Man Wanted on Arson, Firearm Charges Ends With Arrest in Stoughton

BROCKTON, MA — A 2-year search for a Brockton man wanted for attempting to burn down his ex-girlfriend's home and shooting a man was taken into custody by Boston police.

James Stewart, 32, was arrested on James Street in Stoughton Tuesday on active and default warrants for arson of a dwelling, willful and malicious destruction of property, assault and battery with a Dangerous Weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Boston Police Department.

In March 2012, Stewart was charged with setting fire to his ex-girlfriend's home on James Street in Roxbury. In December of 2014, the suspect was charged for shooting a man in on Bowdoin Avenue in Dorchester, police said.

“As this arrest shows, my officers never stop, never quit and never give up until they get their man. Be it a day, a month or – as it was in the case of Mr. Stewart - two years, the search continues until the suspect is found. I want to commend my officers for their hard work and dedication. Thanks to them, a dangerous individual is off the streets and our city’s a safer place because of it,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement.
