STOUGHTON, MA — Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by police early Saturday during an encounter on Monk Street.
A 32-year-old man was shot after officers responded to reports of a possibly armed man outside the Stoughton bar, Public House, after midnight Saturday, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office. The man, identified as Salaheddine Yagoub, was attempting to hit several pedestrians in the area with a vehicle, authorities said.
Police encountered Yagoub after arriving on Monk Street and officers ultimately shot him, the DA's office said. Officers immediately administered first aid before Yagoub was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witness videos obtained by WCVB appear to show an argument involving several people before a vehicle backed around a corner and struck a parked car. The vehicle then drove away as police arrived, according to the news outlet.
The DA's statement did not identify the officers involved or specify how many fired their weapons. Authorities also have not released a detailed account of the moments immediately preceding the shooting.
The Public House said in a social media statement that the incident did not involve the pub. The business closed Saturday out of respect for the death and its effect on staff, then reopened Sunday.
The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Norfolk DA's Office is investigating. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
