STOUGHTON, MA — A new mental health clinician will work alongside Stoughton police officers responding to people experiencing mental health crises.
Korynn McGoldrick has joined the Stoughton Police Department as its co-response mental health clinician, the department announced. She will help evaluate people in crisis, identify resources and recommend care aimed at keeping them safely in the community whenever possible.
McGoldrick is a licensed clinical social worker and holds a Master of Social Work degree from Bridgewater State University. She previously worked in co-response programs with other police agencies and has experience in police, fire and emergency medical services dispatching, according to the department.
Under Stoughton's Co-Response Program, a clinician accompanies officers on calls involving mental health concerns. The program is intended to connect people with appropriate services instead of unnecessarily directing them into the criminal justice system.
The department said having a clinician respond with officers may also reduce the amount of time officers spend at a scene and improve outcomes for individuals and families.
