Drunken Box Truck Driver Crashes Into Stoughton Building: Police

STOUGHTON, MA — A box truck driver was charged with drunken driving after police said he veered off the road and crashed through the side of a commercial building during Tuesday's snowstorm. James O'Bala, 50, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lane violations.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at Medical Specialties Distribution on Technology Drive. Police said the driver veered over the medium before hitting three cars and hitting the side of the building. No one was injured during the crash.

The box truck took out a brick wall on the side of the building and left the truck's cabin stuck inside. Fire officials said the building had to be evacuated following the crash. The truck was labeled "U.S." Mail but police have not determined if O'Bala works for the post office.

Three tow trucks were called to the building to pull the truck out, but fire officials ended up having to use cranes and tow rigs rather than traditional flatbeds to get it out. It took crews about an hour to get the truck out.

Fire officials said there didn't appear to be any structural damage to the building.
