Jayson Coloma, 20, was arrested Saturday night and charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop/yield, marked lanes violation, and number plate violation according to court records.
Coloma was initially stopped at 11:25 p.m. Saturday night near Morton and Plain Streets when an officer noticed that the vehicle driven by Coloma did not have a registration sticker on the license plate. The vehicle initially stopped when pulled over by police, but Coloma allegedly drove away when an officer approached the vehicle. After driving around town, Coloma crashed his car after another police cruiser approached his vehicle from the left, causing Coloma to crash into the cruiser, spin, and come to a stop after striking the Village Pub.
He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton for injuries obtained in the crash but was booked at the Stoughton Police Department upon discharge from the hospital. When asked why he drove away from police, Coloma told police that the car did not have registration or insurance and he didn’t want to lose his car, according to the police report from the incident.
