Busy Election Season Ahead for Stoughton

STOUGHTON, MA — Residents will not have a lack of choices for the top spots in local government when they enter the voting booth this spring.

According to Stoughton Town Clerk Amy Akell, there will be contested races for two selectmen seats, two school committee seats, and moderator.

In the selectmen's race, Chairman David Sousa is seeking reelection but Joseph Mokrisky will be leaving the board in a bid to become the town moderator. Challenging for the two seats will be Richard Hill, John Harman Semerjian, former board member Cynthia Walsh, Pamela Carr, and Michael Sullivan.

School committee members Katie Pina-Enokian and Joaquin Soares are looking for another 3-year term on the board, with Sandra Groppi and Erdem Ural hoping to join the committee.

In addition to Mokrisky, Adam Dawkins is aiming to unseat Howard Hansen as moderator.

No papers were returned for the 2-year and 5-year Stoughton Housing Authority seats, or for the 5-year Redevelopment Authority seat.

Those interesting in running for Town Meeting representative can take out papers until Feb. 13 and must return them by Feb. 14.

Akell said she is in the process of certifying the signatures.

The Stoughton town election takes place in April.
