Clown Sightings Have Come to Stoughton

The hysteria over the creepy costumes has hit Stoughton.

STOUGHTON, MA — They been reported at Merrimack College, Dedham, and Braintree, now the clown reports have come to Stoughton.

A person at the Mobil gas station at the intersections of Washington and Central Streets Tuesday night told police that there was a clown in the area. The woman declined to give more information, according to the Enterprise.

A dispatcher told responding officers that the clown was siting in an old white sedan. Police did find two men in a car but neither were in clown costumes. Police did find a clown mask in the car but the men, residents of Stoughton and Quincy, said they never put it on. No charges have been filed.

Clown hysteria has hit the state this week. Monday, a shelter-in-place was declared at Merrimack College after a report of an armed clown on campus. Tuesday, students at Dedham High School reportedly received vague clown-themed text messages from unknown number and in nearby Braintree, police responded to a report of an armed clown breaking into a home, which turned out to be a neighborhood teen attempting to pull of a prank.
