Driver in Fatal Stoughton Crash Charged with Drunken Driving, Homicide

Police have also released the name of the victim from Sunday's early morning crash.

A Brockton man has been charged in an investigation into car crash early Sunday morning on Route 24 in Stoughton.

Danielson Dacostatavares, 20, has been charged with drunken driving, marked lanes violation, and motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation by the Massachusetts State Police.

At about 3:11 a.m., Sunday, state police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by exit 20 on Route 24 North in Stoughton.

According to a preliminary investigation, 1999 Acura driven by Dacostatavares crashed on the highway, causing a passenger, identified as Fabricio Tavares, 21, of Brockton, to be ejected from the car. Tavares was then struck by a 2005 Lincoln LS operated by a 60-year-old male from Brockton, a 2009 Audi Q7 operated by a 45-year-old female from Mattapan, a 2007 Lexus IS250 operated by a 21-year-old male from Brockton, a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe operated by a 36-year-old male from Nashua, NH, and a 2009 Toyota Matrix operated by a 49-year-old female from Middleborough. The occupants of the vehicles were not injured, but the operator a 2008 Ford Fusion, a 28-year-old male from Roslindale was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Dacostatavare was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for injuries he sustained from the crash.

The northbound side of Route 24 was shut down for several hours for the investigation and was reopened at approximately 8:55 a.m.
