Dump Truck Tips Over, Spills Oil At Stoughton Construction Site

Monday night's downpours made the dirt heavier than the truck could handle.

STOUGHTON, MA —Heavy rains at a construction site near the Easton border caused a dump truck to tip over and spill oil.

Around 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, a dump truck flipped onto its passenger side while trying to tilt dirt from its bed. The driver was trying to pour the dirt around a concrete foundation for construction work at Goddard Highlands, a group of single-family homes near Route 138. Construction supervisor Jim Mather told the Brockton Enterprise Monday night's downpours made the dirt heavier than the truck could handle.

When the truck flipped, its driver was temporarily trapped inside. A coworker broke him out by smashing the window. The truck driver, a man in his 70s, was evaluated by fire department personnel, but he escaped the crash unharmed, according to police.

The crash caused an oil spill on Ripley Drive, but Mather told the Enterprise there won't be significant delays to construction.
