An Easton man was arrested last week after a brief chase on Foster Road to South Street in Braintree.
Michael R. Painten, 21, was arrested and charged with failure to stop for police, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, speeding, failure to keep within marked lanes and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act, according to Police Chief Russ Jenkins.
On Nov. 4, drug unit detectives were observing Painten as part of a month-long investigation into his alleged sale of heroin in Braintree and the surrounding communities.

A little after 7:30 p.m., police attempted to stop Painten on Foster Road after watching what they believed to be a drug transaction in Stoughton and Holbrook. Painten allegedly drove over a traffic island in an effort to flee the detectives and drove at a detective who was approaching his vehicle on foot. The detective had to quickly jump out of the path of Painten’s vehicle to avoid being struck, according to Jenkins.
Painten was eventually stopped on South Street where he and his vehicle were searched. Evidence of drug dealing was recovered, but no drugs were found.
