Book Reading by Stoughton Author on Growing up in Stoughton

Former Stoughton resident James Barber has written a book, October Stories on growing up in Stoughton.  Mr Barber treats his subjects which include Specs O'Keefe, Skunk Whitten, Quack Quack Caron, Chief McGarvey, the Town Diner, the State Theater and many other people and places with wit, mischief, and grace.  I have not had a chance to read it yet, but Ruthie Parent Fitzpatrick read it and loved it.  Mr Barber will be selling and signing copies of his book at the Stoughton Historical Society on Thursday, June 30 from 6-8pm.  He will also read selected passages as time permits.  The book is 178 pages and costs 12.98.
The back of the book reads: "Jim Barber lives in Ohio where he is still mischievous.  He is a graduate of Ohio University and hiolds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts.  Attempts to contact him can be accomplished by writing the publisher.  He can also be contacted by going to the Town Spa in his old hometown and ordering a pizza.  If you leave a big tip, his address will be given to you.  He has taught at various universities, from which he shall refrain from mentioning so as not to embarrass them."  The book is dedicated: "For the townies of my youth and for Samantha still a townie at heart"
