STOUGHTON, MA — Area residents surpassed for a second time in eight days, the goal for a Go Fund Me campaign created to support the families of the four Stoughton High School students who died in a car crash on May 19.

When the campaign was first created, the goal was set at $40,000. It has since been raised twice, once to $50,000, and then again to $60,000.

Campaign creator Christopher Monteiro said he was surprised the initial goal was reached, never mind surpassing the campaign's second goal over the weekend.

In an update on the Go Fund Me page yesterday, Monteiro wrote, "We surpassed our second goal tonight, which initially I did not think that we would get anywhere near. There are no words that I can express to show the appreciation to everyone who has helped this campaign."

There are currently no plans to end the campaign anytime soon. Monteiro wrote on the Stoughton News Facebook group that, "We will continue to accept donations until they stop coming in, so please continue to share when and where you can!"

Monteiro said he's currently working with Go Fund Me to try to get the funds donated to the families as soon as possible.

"The costs and expenses that occur in such tragic events can be overwhelming. Let's us, as a community, help by taking the burden off of these families!" campaign creator Christopher Monteiro wrote on GoFundMe.

All money raised will go directly to the families to offset the cost of funerals. Anything beyond funeral costs will go to assist these families and the community for a memorial or scholarship fund, according to Monteiro.
