Gunshots At Sky Lounge In Smithfield

Private security guards at the Sky Lounge told police they heard two gunshots coming from the southeast parking lot.

SMITHFIELD, RI — Early Sunday morning at about 12:08 a.m. police responded to multiple 9-1-1 callers reporting gunshots at the Sky Lounge.

After requesting help from North Providence Police and Lincoln Police, officers from the three departments police arrived to a crowd of about 150 people in the parking lot. Smithfield Police said there were several physical and verbal altercations taking place outside.

One arrest was made after police gained control and dispersed the large crowd. Smithfield Police charged Christopher Martinez, 28 of Cumberland with simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Martinez was taken to the Smithfield Police Station and was later released with a scheduled arraignment in District Court on October 2.

Police said they will continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with information on the shots fired is asked to contact Smithfield Police at 401- 231-2500.
