Hingham Task Force To Study Impact Of Weymouth Compressor Station

HINGHAM, MA — The selectmen have approved a new committee to look at the impacts a proposed compressor station in Weymouth could have on Hingham
Last week, the board approved the creation of a five to seven-person task force and a letter to Acting Deputy Administrator U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Howard Mac McMillan expressing the need to answers to questions concerning public safety and air quality.
The task of the board will be to study the issue and make recommendation to the selectmen, who can choose to act based on what they are told.

Residents on the South Shore have come out against the proposed compressor station near the Fore River Bridge, believing that the gases produced would decrease the quality of life and an explosion could cause major problems for a densely populated area. The project is part of Spectra Energy's Access Northeast project.
