Late Labor Day Likely Means an Early Start for Stoughton Students

The school committee will discuss the proposed 2015-16 calendar tonight.

An early Labor Day could mean a pre-holiday start of school for Stoughton students this fall.

Like other school districts in the area, the Stoughton School Committee is contemplating starting the 2015-16 school year before Labor Day to avoid a late start and a race to finish school before July.

This fall, Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 7.

According to the proposed calendar, staff will return on Aug. 31 and students will return on Sept. 1. There will be no school on Sept. 4 and 7, with the first full week of school not taking place until Sept. 28 due to the Jewish high holidays.

The last day of school will be June 17, 2016 with no snow days, June 24 if all five makeup days are used.
