Suspect In Stoughton Family Dollar Robbery Arrested

Police say the suspect may have been knocking on the doors of area homes.

STOUGHTON, MA — Stoughton Police have arrested the man they said robbed a person outside a local store.

A customer at the Washington Street Family Dollar told police that a black man in all black clothing knocked him over and took his cash and personal property as he was leaving the store at 8:59 p.m. Monday night.

Police said they received a reports from neighbors of a man with a similar description banging on their doors.

The suspect, 24-year-old Elvino Rodrigues of Brockton, was arrested late Monday night and charged with unarmed robbery, armed assault with intent to rob, and assault and battery on person over 60 years of age.

He was due to be arraigned in Stoughton District Court Tuesday however attorneys requested a mental health evaluation prior to the arraignment after Rodrigues refused to be cooperative while in holding.
