Nanny Gets Prison Time for Stealing Over $280,000 in Checks

Stephanie Fox, 30, of Randolph, admitted last year that she stole dozens of checks from her employer and forged their names.

RANDOLPH, MA - A former nanny from Randolph who stolen dozen of checks from her employer was sentenced in U.S. District Court Thursday.

Stephanie Fox, 30, of Randolph, admitted in November that she stole 65 checks worth over $280,000 from the Boston couple she worked for and forged their names. She was sentenced to 40 months in prison, three years of supervised release and restitution of $281,917.

Fox was employed as a nanny from February 2013 until August 2015 when the couple discovered that for more than a year she had been writing checks on one of their bank accounts and forging one of their signatures on the checks. Fox avoided detection by destroying the bank account statements when they arrived at her employers’ home, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

In total, Fox forged 65 checks worth $281,917. The money was used to purchase jewelry, including a diamond pendant necklace and three Movado watches, and to travel to places such as the Bahamas, Aruba, Hawaii, Newport, Disney, and Cape Cod.

In 2007, Fox was charged with using stolen credit cards from a restaurant in Braintree where she worked to buy Red Sox and concert tickets, gift cards, and other items according to the Boston Globe. In 2012, she was convicted of larceny by check in many local communities.
