Neighboring Brockton to Vote on Casino Proposal Today

Many from Stoughton will likely have their eye on the results in the neighboring town.

While Stoughton will not vote today, many residents and officials will likely take an interest in Brockton’s referendum vote today.

Residents in the neighboring town will decide if the city will welcome a $650 million resort casino for the Brockton Fairgrounds. If approved, the developer would enter into negotiations with the surrounding towns, including Stoughton.

A win does not guarantee a casino a town over. Brockton is competing with New Bedford and Somerset for the state’s final casino license.

Last month, Stoughton Selectmen chairman Joseph Mokrisky told the Boston Globe that the town would like to wait until Brockton votes before discussing the impacts that may affect Stoughton.

Stoughton Patch will have the results of the vote after the polls close tonight.
