New Charges For Stoughton Man Convicted Of Hiring Hit Man

John Platten, who was convicted of hiring a hitman to kill his father, now faces new charges.

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A former Springfield man who now resides in Stoughton faces new charges stemming from the Western Massachusetts city.

John C. Platten, 47, was due in Springfield District Court Monday to be arraigned on two counts of threatening to commit a crime and two counts of violating a restraining order, according to MassLive. In 2000, he was sentenced to eight and a half years in federal prison for hiring a hit man to kill his father.

The complaint alleges that Platten sent threats to a Springfield woman. The messages included one that stated, "gonna be corrected, no way out of it. Just how much it hurts is up to you," according to a complaint filed by the alleged victim.

In 2000, Platten pleaded guilty to conspiracy and hiring someone to commit a murder after he offered an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent posing as a hit man $10,000 to kill his father.
