New Mexican Restaurant Coming to Stoughton Center

Avocados Restaurant will operate on Washington Street in Stoughton Center.

Stoughton, MA — A new Mexican restaurant is coming to Stoughton Center this year.

Tuesday night, the selectmen approved the liquor license for Avocados Mexican Restaurant, to be located at 809 Washington St. The owners, brothers Francisco and Juan Mendes, currently operate another restaurant, also named Avocados, in Whitman.

Despite not being open, the establishment has already gained its fair share of buzz around town. Chairman David Sousa said he got a few calls the morning of the hearing informing him of the quality of their Whitman restaurant.

“We got one of the best restaurants in Whitman. We have fresh food every day and pride ourselves on making authentic Mexican food,” Francisco Mendes said.

The Waltham natives told the board that Stoughton reminds them of the changes their hometown went through.

“We understand the changes that are coming to Stoughton. We grew up and Waltham and this reminds me of Waltham of 15-20 years ago when they only had three bars in the downtown area, now it has 50,” Mendes said.

Right now, an open date has not been set. 80 percent of the kitchen and bar equipment is in, with the tables, chairs, and TVs on the way.

When it does open, the brothers hope to offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, telling the board they plan on opening in the morning to serve breakfast burritos.
