Police Chief Opening Posted

Internal applications from qualified candidates will be accepted through Dec. 12.

STOUGHTON, MA — The search for Stoughton’s next police chief is on a fast track, the board said.

After weeks of discussion the selectmen last week approved the posting for the opening. The job description will be posted at Town Hall and the Police Department until Dec. 12.

”We’ve been playing with this for six months and the buck stops here. We will go ahead and we will put a police chief in. We’re on a very fast track now. If people can’t do this we’ll hire a professional to do this,” Vice-chair Robert Kohn said.

The posting was originally approved in early November, but legal concerns over the need to seek bids for an assessment center delayed the process.

Since March, Lt. Donna McNamara has served as the interim chief. The posting is only open to current members of the Stoughton Police Department that match the qualifications listed in the description.
In other search news, the town received one bid for the assessment center from Resource Management Associates. The bid came in at $9,500, according to Deputy Procurement Officer Fran Bruttaniti. A recommendation on the bid from her and Town Counsel Brian Winner is expected on Dec. 6.
